In the 0-2 room, with Jill, Emma & Ann, we concentrate on children being happy, secure and confident to explore their surroundings and to feel settled enough to let parents/carers leave them at nursery while they play and learn with us.
We explore, experiment and express ourselves while learning through play, beginning to make sense of the world around us. Four Learning Areas are monitored; social behaviour and play, posture and large motor skills, vision and fine motor skills and speech/hearing, to monitor children’s development. The Learning Areas are broad-based as this age group develops so quickly and they learn so much. All basic life skills are learnt in nearly the first two years of life; walking, talking, social skills, feeding oneself, using the toilet. In order for children to learn, we provide a happy safe environment. We plan activities for a balanced curriculum using Birth to Three matters to promote different learning aspects, but are aware that activities may not happen if children are unhappy or not confident enough to participate. Sometimes they will watch and learn as adults do the activities. We go with the flow and the mood of the room while nurturing development and challenging what a child already knows. We respect parent’s/carer’s/children’s routines and wishes; if a child needs to sleep or eat at a particular time of day we gladly accommodate this. |
