Division I is taught by Mrs Playford and Mrs Maud. The day is structured similar to the Reception class so that the children cover literacy and numeracy targets in the morning when they are less tired and topic work along with French, Music, PE, ICT, Art, Swimming and Golden Time in the afternoons. The children continue with the Jolly Phonics Programme in Literacy, moving on to further sounds and Grammar work. This is also tied in closely with the National Literacy Strategy. The Numeracy Strategy is also followed closely but we tend to have more flexibility, moving the children on further at an earlier stage depending on ability. Before moving into Division I there is close liaison between the Reception Class Teacher and the Division I teachers so that the teachers are aware of all areas of educational care, both academic and pastoral that have taken place in the first year of the child’s schooling.
