Prospectus - Glebe House Pre-Prep
Pre-Prep Overview:

Working Together Glebe House School Pre Prep Department takes in children from Reception through to Year Two. The children are split into Divisions R, I and II in line with the main school. Children join our Pre Prep Department from the Glebe House School Nursery and surrounding Nursery Schools. We have extremely close links with the nursery and our Reception Teacher regularly visits the children in the nursery prior to their move up into the Pre Prep. Children who are coming into Glebe from other nurseries are visited by Mrs Skipper in their own setting. In the Summer Term all children who are registered to enter Division R in the following September are invited to spend Monday afternoons in the Reception class. This ensures an incredibly smooth transition into Reception.

Staff:

The Pre Prep Department has six members of Staff. The Department is run by the Head of Pre Prep, Bertie BearMrs Allison Skipper, who also teaches Division R. Division R is supported by Mrs Bray. Division I is taught by Mrs Maud and Mrs Playford with support from the Gap students. Division II is taught by Mrs Lewis with support in the morning from the Gap students.

Curriculum:

All three classes also have lessons with main school staff in Music, ICT, French and PE for Division R and I. Division II also have lessons in Games and Art in the main school. This enables us to gradually prepare the children for their move into the main school and ensures that the transition is a smooth one. Teaching throughout the Pre Prep is differentiated according to each child’s particular needs. Small classes enable us to do this effectively. Throughout the Pre Prep the Ginn Reading 360 is used as a core reading scheme supported by a wealth of other schemes in order to give the children a broad reading base.

 Assemblies:
Classroom
The children in Pre Prep attend main school assemblies on Monday morning with Mr Crofts and the Division II children are involved in House Assembly on a Thursday morning, while Divisions R and have Hymn Practice with Mrs Skipper. On a Friday the children in Pre Prep have a Praise assembly, which is terribly popular. In this assembly the children are congratulated for the stars they have received throughout the week and one child who has been particularly good or achieved particularly highly during the week is awarded the Pre Prep Teddy Bear, Bertie for the week; Bertie is very well loved and has enjoyed numerous outings and experiences with the children he has been home with.

Meeting Others:
Joseph Play
The children in Pre Prep are all encouraged to mix and to help and support each other. At lunchtimes the children are divided into groups mixing R, I and II to encourage them to get to know each other better. The Division II children help to serve the younger children in Division R and I and readily rise to the challenge. The teachers in Pre Prep also move around the tables each half term so that they have the opportunity to meet and chat with all of the children in Pre Prep. At playtimes the teachers again rotate duties so that they can spend more time out on duty with the children in the whole of Pre Prep.

Assessment:
Gym
In the Pre Prep Department there is constant ongoing assessment used by the teachers to inform their knowledge of the children’s learning in order to take them on further. In Reception the children are observed regularly as part of the Foundation Stage Profile. The Performance in Primary Schools (PIPS) assessment is also undertaken at the start and then end of the Reception year. PIPS are also undertaken during the Summer Term of Division I and II. Reading and Spelling Tests are undertaken at the end of Reception and in September and June in Divisions I and II. NFER Maths 5 6 and 7 are undertaken in each of the classes in June each year.

Extra Curricular Activities:
Outside
In the Pre Prep we have a Choir which gets together weekly to perform at school concerts. In the summer term the children in Division II are encouraged to join the older children after school for Rounders and Cricket Activities. In the Summer Term we also prepare the children for the local Country Dance Party. There is also an after school club, called GLEBE HOUSE OUT OF SCHOOL TIME – GHOST club. Here the children undertake a wide variety of activities including cooking, football, music and movement, craft, swimming and general free choice. The children also have an allotted time to complete homework within GHOST club if requested by parents.
