As part of their History Topic this term on Homes Long Ago Division II visited True's Yard Museum in Kings Lynn.
The children had a wonderful day and were fascinated by the stories of lif e in Victorian times as a fisherman; they were particularly interested in the GHOSTS!
The children began with a tour of the two cottages which they found to be incredibly small.
They were amazed to find that 11 people lived in one cottage with one small room downstairs , one small room upstairs , no bathroom and most importantly no toilet!
The chamberpot was a particular fascination and when asked to try out 11 in one double bed they were all a little uncomfortable and not too keen to live in quite the same fashion!
Outside the children tried out the tin bath for size but were not terribly impressed with the thought of all 11 people in the family using the same water.
Next was wash day! I think it would probably take Division II a week to finish the washing.
All were a little damp after the experience but thoroughly enjoyed using the posser and later the mangle.
We ended the day with a visit to the Town House Museum where we did some medieval brass rubbings, looked at a Victorian Nursery and Kitchen and finished in a Victorian School Room.
A fabulous day was had by all.
A big thank you to Mrs Playford for helping us out on the trip.
