The Croydon Cup at St Georges Dersingham |
Glebe House School beat Heacham in the final of The Croydon Cup at St Georges Dersingham on Saturday 10th of November.
It was a considerable turn around from the first group match in which Heacham beat Glebe House 3-0, we played this match two players down. Playing in rugby shorts Glebe boys had taken a while to adapt to the round ball game, but grew stronger as the tournament progressed. Credit must go to Toby Hands and Michael Skerritt who ran skilfully with the ball, feeding to the older boys Patrick Webb and Olly Flux, who used their immense power to strike shots on target. A well taken goal by Patrick Webb, recorded a 1-0 victory over the hosts and thanks to a penalty save from M.J. Wright. Our star defenders Harry Hutchinson and Charlie Rogers helped to see us through to the final.
The final against Heacham was a tense affair with both sides putting in so much effort and running close before Glebe House captain Olly Flux settled the match and the competition.
The children were well supported by the parents, Mr Rogers father of Charlie commented that fitness also played a big part in the result, the boys didn’t fade and kept running. Credit must also go to the boys who conducted themselves in a true sportsman like manner.
The team coach Mr Ian Hands congratulated the boys on a gritty performance and good team play, which produced a fantastic result.
