4th March 2018

Dear Parents

It’s been quite a week nationally and at Glebe House School!

Thank you to everyone who has borne the difficulties caused by the snow and ice.

It is the first time in my thirteen years here that elements of the school have been closed or we have advised some people not to come in, but clearly it made sense. The Prep School however retained good numbers due to the boarders, some who did extra boarding nights and intrepid local pupils. I am grateful to the staff who were able to safely travel in and enabled certainly on Friday to teach all normal Division lV to Vlll lessons with all of the most senior children in school. Hopefully snow and illness will now depart and allow us to enjoy te rest of this term!

It does mean that this blog is largely about the future than the immediate past. Please however do have a look at a brief gallery of photographs below of our fun in the snow.

We do have a picture of the week and it goes to Olivia Jordan for her lovely wintery scene

Next Week & beyond

The World Book Day dressing up day will now be held tomorrow. So we look forward to seeing how your imaginations have been working!

The U11 Football Tournament which we were hosting on Tuesday has been postponed and we have asked the schools who were coming to play, which of three dates best works for them.

On Wednesday we look forward to getting back to playing matches, although you will note from Lisa’s ‘What’s On?’ email that the matches against Fairstead House have been postponed.

The rearranged County Cross Country is now in the morning on Wednesday and we wish Ruby, Gracie-Mae, Maisie, Archie, Will, Tabitha and Orla J. much success at Holkham Hall.

We look forward to the Director of Music at Gresham’s School, John Bowley, coming to adjudicate the House Music competition, which will start at 10.30am on Thursday, not at 9am as per the ‘What’s On’ due to conflicting commitments for our accompanist, Miss Stewart! Parents are warmly invited to attend and will be advised on Wednesday of the approximate timings of their children’s performances. For further information please contact Bridget.

We finish the week with our Spring Term Open Day and we hope that many of our current pupils will be able to join us to show off their school. Amongst other thing there will be a rehearsal for the Junior Play in the Hall from 10am.

We were disappointed that the Parents’ Committee Quiz was postponed but we will try again on Thursday 15th March and hopefully all 75 people signed up to take part will be available on this new date.

Even further ahead

Please start thinking about the Easter Holidays and beyond.

You should have received information about ESA courses run by Jon Turner & Lis Haslam (if your version has 12th March, it should of course be 12th April!). Early booking is advisable.

The GHS Triathlon is taking place on Sunday 13th May. Entries open very shortly.

Golfers are warmly invited to join us for the 9th Annual Golf Day at Heacham Manor on Friday 8th June. Do contact Sarah Minney or myself for further information.

The GHS Summer Ball is on Saturday 7th July and Anna & Matt Hallard are working very hard to make this a great event. Do look at the website (www.theglebeball.co.uk) where you can book your places/table.

I look forward to seeing a full school tomorrow and to enjoying a good week ahead

Best wishes,

John Crofts
