Headmaster’s blog 15th April 2018

Dear Parents

Collections at the end last term reminded me how much we manage to pack into quite a short term, punctuated by illness and snow. And if that’s true of this term gone, how much more have we to look forward to this summer term!

Before we speak of this term let us just remind ourselves of some the events of the final week of the Spring term.

The Junior Play - Splash!

A major feature of our last week of term was the Junior Play Splash!. As usual this was a great combination of a good script and enthusiastic children, led by Miss Hubbard and Miss Patrick, who as in previous years have spent a great deal of time apart from rehearsal on costumes, props etc. I am most grateful to them and other colleagues, notably Alice Hipwell and David Whitehill for their work on the set and the lighting, and others who have supported behind scenes. While it is fairly fresh in people’s mind the producers would be grateful if there is a parent who would write a few words by way of a review for next year’s Aquilian magazine.

Sports Matches

U13 Netball v Langley Prep @Taverham Hall, Wednesday 21st March

LP@TH won the toss and chose first centre pass. We started well by intercepting the ball, but they scored the first goal. I took the centre pass and passed the ball to Ellie who got it in the circle. Olivia and Ruby had a few shots at goal but sadly missed and LP@TH got the ball back and scored another two goals. We passed well with Olivia scoring another goal and at the end of the first quarter it was 4-2 to them.

In the second quarter we played well, quickly getting the ball into the circle but unfortunately not scoring. Despite our strong defence, Langley managed to score a goal.

In the third quarter we continued to try hard, both in attack and defence.

In the last quarter we played really well scoring 3 goals, 1 by Olivia and 2 by Maude. The final score was 15-7 to them.

My man of the match is Elinor for good intercepting. Well done everyone for playing really well this term and thank you Miss Patrick for working really hard to train us into great netballers and taking us to away matches.

U10/11 Netball v Langley Prep @ Taverham Hall, Wednesday 21st March,

I lost the toss and LP@TH chose first centre pass. We started off well, getting the ball into the circle and scoring 5 goals, 4 by Mabel and 1 by Annabel, but Langley scored 4 goals.

In the second quarter, they brought on a different team who were not tired like us! Langley came on strong, scoring 4 goals and unfortunately we only scored 2, 1 by Mabel and 1 by Annabel.

In the third quarter they brought their first team back on. Our passing was good, but not as good as them. This resulted in them scoring 6 goals and us 3, 2 by Mabel and 1 by Annabel.

In the last quarter, we were all tired and we conceded 5 goals and sadly we scored none.

The final result was 19 to Langley and 10 to us. Well played team, we all played really well against a strong team, but my Man of the Match is Mabel for scoring 7 goals. Thank you Miss Hubbard and Miss Patrick for a great all round season.

GHS U11 Football Tournaments, Thursday 22nd March

After the disappointment of the football matches cancelled by the two opposition teams the previous day, it was good to bounce straight back and for the girls to have a rare cance to play on their own.

This is the fourth year we have invited local schools to come and play an 8-a-side tournament at Glebe and the first year of a standalone girls 5-a-side competition.

The boys knew that it would be difficult as only the larger local schools (Heacham, Hunstanton & Dersingham) had brought teams. Our first match was against the Hunstanton B team and we fought hard to secure a 2-1 victory with goals from Freddie G. and Theo.

Our second match was more difficult and Dersingham ran out winners by 6 goals to nil.

We continued to try hard and were pleased to only lose 1-0 against Heacham and 2-0 against Hunnstanton, who won all their four matches, conceding no goals and hence were worthy winners of the competition.

The girls lost their first match 1-0 against Docking who were to go on and win the tournament. Our effort in defeat was continued as we beat Hunstanton and Dersingham in the remaining matches with our goals coming from Gracie-Mae and Eliza. This meant that we finished second overall. Virtually all of the squad can play in next year’s tournament so hopefully we will do even better!

Success at Pelicans

At the Pelicans presentation evening Jo Antliff awarded the U10 girls Manager’s player of the year to Gracie- Mae Meek. She said ‘Gracie-Mae has been an inspiration to her team and led from the front this season. She has a wonderful and flexible attitude on and off the pitch and has been a pleasure to watch her develop further throughout the season.’ Well done!

This is the time that many clubs are doing award presentations and it would be great to celebrate any other achievements! Please let me have any photographs and words of explanation.

And finally

I would be grateful if we can have all the activity choices in as soon as possible so we can get going this week. Some activities are low on numbers so I would like to inform outside coaches if their activity will not run.

Please do think about getting together with friends and signing up for the Parents’ Committee Ball via the website www.theglebeball.co.uk – I am so grateful to Anna and Matt Hallard for all their hardwork to make this another great event!

I look forward to seeing you and your children on Tuesday and to enjoying the final term of the year together.
