Headmaster’s Blog 8th July 2018

Dear all,

It has been a wonderful final couple of weeks of term with the final ‘acts’ of the Leavers’ Programme and ‘goings on’ in and out of school.

The art exhibition was its usual wonderful display involving every member of the school and visitors were very complimentary of the hard work of the children and Alice Hipwell.

The penulimate week was designated as Science Week and Mr Turner spent time with each class doing extra curricular experiments and investigations before Pre-Prep finished the week with a visit to Pensthorpe anf the Prep School to the National Space Centre at Leicester.

The Lavender Fields and Farmer Freds entertained Division III courtesy of Shelley Eagle and Jo Goode. They began with a visit to the animal centre at Norfolk Lavender where they got to meet – and in some cases handle – a whole range of creatures, from cockroaches and snakes to wallabies and raccoon dogs!

After a run around in the maze, they made our way to Farmer Fred’s for a bit more excitement. After about an hour of climbing, sliding and chasing, we were treated to a lunch of fish fingers and chips, followed by ice cream. All of Div III would like to say a big thank you to Jo and Shelley. It was a welcome relief after three days of exams! The following day boarders had their termly fun also at Farmer Fred’s followed the next week by their summer party.

Eagle Performers went to see ‘Shrek the Musical’ in Norwich before two days later they, along with Glebe Does Strictly and the Pre Prep ballet group, performed a most stunning show at the Princess Theatre. Many thanks to Brian Hallard for offering the venue which certainly brought the best out of the children. Those present could scarcely believe that the oldest performers were only 13 yrs old and to see so much talent from a small school was remarkable.

The fourteenth ‘Bring Your Tent To School’ weekend was blessed with great weather and the largest number of people taking part in its history. Over 75 children camped at least one night along with a total of 43 parents. The Parents’ Committee ran several activities along with a barbeque on the Saturday night.

The U13s beat their fathers and mothers at cricket and rounders respectively and the Leavers then put on their smartest clothes to attend the Aquilae Dinner two days later at Titchwell Manor.

Swimmers from Division II & III were highly successful in the cluster swimming gala at Glebe on Thursday.

Later in the day was of course time for the Inter House Show in the marquee, adjudicated by Charlie Cushing (OA) who is now the General Manager at Thursford. Al children acquitted themselves exceptionally well and the winners were St Edmunds.

And into the holidays!

We have had a fantastic response to the ESA summer course and taken lots of bookings. If you intend to sign your child up for any of our exciting summer course, please be aware that courses are filling up and some have a limited capacity. The 3 day, 2 night Outdoor Adventure Camp has only 8 spaces left with Quasar having only 7 spaces remaining. The Seal trip is also limited to one minibus.

If you are signing up for the Forest School courses with Mrs Haslam and intend to do the daily option instead of the full week of morning sessions, please specify which day/days you wish your child to attend. This is a great opportunity to pick up new skills and have a great time outdoors.

Mr Hawkins is running a range of great activities including Tennis, Global Sports, Circus Skills and Zorbing. This is a great way to entertain your child whilst keeping them physically active and demand is likely to be high. Make sure you do not miss out!

In order to confirm your booking, registration and medical forms must be received in addition to payment in full. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact myself on esa@glebehouseschool.co.uk or the office and do feel free to spread the word around!
